ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE INFORMATION
Roundtrip flights are not included as part of your excavation cost. You are responsible to purchase your own flights to and from Israel. You are required to email Emmaus your complete flight itinerary so proper arrival and departure information can be managed. There are some dynamics associated with your arrival in Israel and your departure from Israel that you need to consider when scheduling your flights.

WHEN TO PURCHASE YOUR AIRLINE TICKETS
Plan your flights to arrive at and depart from Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV; Tel Aviv). You are welcome to purchse your airline tickets at this time. Once you have purchased your airline tickets, please email your complete roundtrip flight itinerary to Dr. Wink Thompson at info@EmmausOnline.net. Your itinerary is needed for administrative tasks.
ARRIVAL DAY IN ISRAEL: JUNE 14 and JUNE 28
June 14 is the scheduled arrival day for Session 1. June 28 is the scheduled arrival day for Session 2.
ARE YOU PLANNING TO ARRIVE IN ISRAEL BEFORE JUNE 14 or JUNE 28?
For those of you wanting to arrive at our Tel Aviv hotel earlier than June 14 or June 28, Emmaus is not booking advance arrangements. Please contact the hotel directly for any advance overnight arrangements you wish to make. See the Accommodations link for hotel information.
ARRIVAL AT BEN GURION INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (TLV)
Upon arrival at Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) follow the people exiting the plane. Many are locals or seasoned travelers to Israel. Your first stop is at Passport Control, which can take time during peak travel seasons. At Passport Control you will receive a small visa document. Keep this visa document until your departure from Israel. After Passport Control is Baggage Claim. While in Baggage Claim it is recommended you exchange $200 per person for later incidental personal expenses and field trip lunches. After Baggage Claim you will pass through Customs and then enter the Arrival Hall Lobby.
TRANSPORTATION FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE TEL AVIV HOTEL
Because participants will arrive in Israel at various times of the day or evening, no transportation from the airport to the Tel Aviv hotel is provided by Emmaus. You are to take a taxi from the airport to the hotel. The cost is approximately $40 or 140 shekels (Israel currency).
TAXI SERVICE FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE TEL AVIV HOTEL
(Cash only; local Israel currency preferred; US Dollars accepted; taxi does not accept credit cards). When you enter the Arrival Hall Lobby directly in front of you and over the main door is a sign that says "Taxi" --- exit there. Once outside walk about 75 yards to the left until you see a "Taxi Dispatch” booth and the attendant. See the taxi attendant for a taxi to your hotel. The taxi attendant will assign you a taxi and give you the exact cost upon request. All private taxis are white, 4-door sedans. A taxi can manage 3 persons with luggage. It is about a 30-minute drive to the hotel. WARNING: You may be approached by an unauthorized taxi driver offering you a ride. It is best to avoid these taxi solicitations. To avoid them, follow the instructions above to have the official taxi attendant assign you a taxi. Pay the driver upon arrival at the hotel. Tipping is not expected; it is optional at 5-10%.
A shared taxi service known as a "Sheruit" is also available from the airport to the hotel. A Sheruit is a van and usually yellow in color. The cost is about $15 or 50 shekels (Israel currency). This is a cash only service. A Sheruit van will collect 11 persons and then depart the airport. It acts somewhat like a modified shuttle service. Be sure you get on a Tel Aviv Sheruit. When you enter the Arrival Hall Lobby directly in front of you and over the main door is a sign that says "Taxi" --- exit there. Once outside and straight in front of you will see van drivers requesting passengers to various cities throughout Israel. You want a Sheruit van to Tel Aviv. Inform the driver of your hotel. Some restricted hours of operation apply Friday evening (June 14 and June 28) since it is the beginning of the Shabbat. Drive time to the hotel in a Sheruit can take an hour or more since passengers are being shuttled to different locations within Tel Aviv.

CHECKING OUT OF THE JERUSALEM HOTEL
Check-out time is 11:00 am. If you desire a later check out time you may make a request at the front desk. In some cases, a fee may apply. Emmaus is not booking post-excavation rooms at our Jerusalem hotel. Please contact the hotel directly for any additional overnight arrangements you desire beyond the scheduled departure days of June 28 and July 12. See the Accommodations link for additional information.
TRANSPORTATION FROM THE JERUSALEM HOTEL TO THE AIRPORT
Because participants have different departure dates and times, Emmaus is not providing transportation from the Jerusalem hotel to the airport for your departure. It will be necessary for you to take a taxi from the hotel to the airport. The cost is approximately $100 or 350 shekels (Israel currency). Taxis are a cash only service. Credit cards are not accepted. Please see the front desk at the hotel to arrange a taxi. To share the cost, taxis can manage 3 persons with luggage. For 4 or more persons are traveling together to the airport, the front desk may be able to provide a taxi-van for your transportation needs. Please inquire at the front desk.
You need to depart the Jerusalem hotel 4 hours prior to your scheduled flight time. The drive time to the airport is approximately one hour. This will allow you three hours to pass through all the airport departure formalities.
If you wish to take a Nesher Sheruit (shuttle van; 11 persons) to the airport, you must make your pickup reservation 24 hours in advance. The cost is approximately $20 or 70 shekels (Israel currency). The front desk can assist with your reservation. Please note that Nesher Sheruits do not operate from midnight Friday to 9:00 pm Saturday evening. You will need to plan for a private taxi during these hours. While the Nesher Sheruit (shuttle van) is perhaps an option for some of you, Emmaus recommends you use a private taxi from the Jerusalem hotel to the airport rather than the Nesher Sheruit service. Only seasoned travelers to Israel should use the Nesher Sheruit service to the airport.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT BEN GURION INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (TLV)
Upon arrival in the departure hall look for the airline check-in board. It will indicate which boarding line you should enter (A, B, C, D, etc.). Prior to entering the check-in line, use a pre-check-in kiosk and then get in line. After the check-in agent has received your luggage and you have received your boarding pass, exit where it says DEPARTURES. Follow the departure signs. You will continue through Security, Passport Control, and eventually arrive at the large Departure Rotunda. When in doubt, follow the locals, they have done this many times before.
