In the Master's Steps: Jesus in the Land
March 28 - April 8, 2019

I invite you to join us on a journey through the land of promise, ancient Israel. Both for the first-timer, as well as for those who have been to Israel before, we will visit familiar places of biblical and historical significance, but we will see them with a new understanding. In our travel, we will consider both stone and Scripture, place and parable as we retrace the story of God’s revelation of himself in this land. The Hebrew prophets were intimately familiar with life here and used it to punctuate their message: Jeremiah and the almond tree (Jer 1:11-12), Isaiah and the fading flower (Isa 40:8), Amos and the summer figs (Amos 8:1). They challenged the people to realize their calling to be a light to the nations. Jesus also knew well the contours of the land and drew upon his surroundings to underscore the Father’s message to his generation, “Learn the lesson of the fig tree” (Matt 24:32). During our journey, we want to attune our hearts to hear God’s call, and to realize it afresh in our own lives. We will take full advantage of being led by Distinguished Professor Steven Notley in this voyage of discovery and renewal. Selected evenings will serve as added times for reflection on the day past or to come, so that those who have a desire can dig deeper. As we travel the biblical stage, there will be moments when we pause, celebrate, and respond to the deeply spiritual opportunities that arise – sometimes quite unexpectedly! These have become valued, unscripted features of our previous times in Israel. We invite you to join us. Our prayer is that when our journey is done and we return home that it may be said of us, as it was said of those before us, “they recognized that they had been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13).

  • "Traveling in the "Footsteps of Paul" in Turkey made this tour feel like a fresh Christian blood transfusion. I realize how important it is to take time to explore Old World roots; to visit places were Jesus (in Israel) or the Apostles shared the Good News. The Paul Turkey trip was a natural follow-up to my visit to Israel. The success of this tour for me came from the mix of people who bonded well, and the curiosity and questions shared. Matching this was the superb biblical scholarship of three PHD leaders who seemed to enjoy exploring our questions."
