PLANNING YOUR FLIGHT TO ISRAEL
Roundtrip flights are not a part of your trip cost. You are responsible to purchase your own flights to and from Israel. You are required to email Emmaus your complete flight itinerary so proper arrival and departure information can be managed. There are some dynamics associated with your arrival in Israel that you need to consider prior to purchasing your airline tickets.
FLIGHTS TO AND FROM ISRAEL
Over 90% of the participants for this tour are from eastern NC. Having reviewed the primary airlines serving New Bern (EWN), Charlotte (CLT), and Raleigh (RDU), Emmaus is recommending you take one of four roundtrip flights to and from Israel. The flights recommended all depart the USA on April 28 and arrive at Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV) in Israel between 3:00 pm—5:15 pm on April 29. You are not required to take one of these flights; however, they are our recommended flights. If you elect to use one of the recommended flights, a bus transfer will be provided to take you from the TLV airport to the hotel.
If you elect not to use one of the recommended flights, to the best of your ability, try to schedule your arrival time at Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV) to be no later than 5:15 pm on April 29. Should you arrive later than 5:15 pm you will need to take a taxi from the airport to the hotel at a cost of approximately $60.
See the Recommended Flights link.
WHEN TO PURCHASE YOUR AIRLINE TICKETS
You are welcome to purchase your airline ticket at any time. It is recommended you purchase your tickets sooner rather than later since these flights are popular flights to Israel and are typically completely full.
ARRIVAL AT BEN GURION AIRPORT
Upon arrival at Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) follow the people exiting the plane. Many are locals or seasoned travelers to Israel. Walk quickly to stay near the front of the crowd since Passport Control can be slow during peak travel seasons. At Passport Control you will receive a small visa document. Keep this visa document until your departure from Israel. After Passport Control is Baggage Claim. While in Baggage Claim it is recommended you exchange $200 for later incidental personal expenses. After Baggage Claim you will pass through Customs and then enter the Arrival Hall Lobby.
WHERE TO MEET AT THE TEL AVIV AIRPORT
When you enter the Arrival Hall Lobby turn to the right where you will find some seating; beyond the seating is a coffee bar. Remain in the vicinity of these two areas. Wink and Cris Thompson will meet you in this area around 5:30 pm.
FROM THE TEL AVIV AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL
Only one bus transfer to the hotel will take place. Based on the recommended flights, the estimated departure time of the bus transfer is 6:00 pm. For those of you who arrive earlier in the day, please be in the assigned seating area in the Arrival Hall Lobby by 5:30 pm. At an appropriate time, Wink and Cris Thompson will escort everyone to the bus that will take us to the hotel. The hotel is about 40 minutes away. If for any reason you miss the scheduled bus transfer, it will be necessary for you to take a taxi to the hotel.
TAXI SERVICE TO THE HOTEL
When you enter the Arrival Hall Lobby directly in front of you and over the main door is a sign that says "Taxi" – exit there. Once outside walk about 75 yards to the left until you see a "Taxi” booth and the attendant. See the taxi attendant for your taxi to your hotel. The taxi attendant will assign you a taxi and give you the exact cost upon request. All private taxis are white, 4-door sedans. It is about a 40-minute drive to the hotel. WARNING: You may be approached by an unauthorized taxi driver offering you a ride. It is best to avoid these taxi solicitations. To avoid them, follow the instructions above to have the official taxi attendant assign you a taxi. Pay the driver upon arrival at the hotel. Tipping is not expected; it is optional at 5-10%.
